Roblox, the popular social and gaming app, will soon be available on PlayStation. The company announced during its 2023 Roblox Developers Conference (RDC) that the app will be released on PS4 and PS5 consoles on October 10.
Sony also confirmed the release date during its September 14th State of Play event.
While Roblox is already available on various platforms, including PC, Mac, iOS, Android, and Xbox, the lack of support for Sony’s consoles has been considered a significant gap in its lineup.
However, Roblox promises that PlayStation players will have access to the full catalogue of Roblox experiences upon the app’s release on PS4 and PS5.
Roblox has been hinting at a PlayStation version for some time, with a 2022 job listing indicating that the company was hiring a PlayStation engineer, and CEO David Baszucki mentioning during an August earnings call that the company had been exploring bringing the app to PlayStation and Nintendo Switch.
While there is no news of a Switch release, Baszucki heavily teased that Roblox would be expanding to more platforms during the RDC event.
In addition to the PlayStation release, Roblox also announced that the Meta Quest app would be widely available later in September.
The app had over a million installs in the first five days following its open beta release in July. There are also upgrades coming to the Xbox app, promising an improved user experience and frequent updates.
Roblox’s expansion to PlayStation is a significant move for the company, as it seeks to make its platform available on all devices worldwide. With millions of daily active users and a massive variety of 3D immersive experiences created by a global community, there is always something new to discover on Roblox.
